LATEST SOFTWARE

EXISTING USERS - "read all about it" then use the Software Request Form Link (the red box after the features) to order your copy.

QPSMR 2007.2

Unicode QDFs

QPSMR version 2007.2 has the ability to read and write a unicode QDF (questionnaire definition file). This is ideal is you are working with overseas customers as a unicode QDF file is a "fixed object file" and as such there will be no problems with local language settings.

Suspend Input

New [Suspend input] settings are available from the "Question worksheet" and the "Response handling for question" dialog box.  When set the question or response will be unavailable in data entry in the same way as if it had [Refuse input] applied.  This setting only affects data entry (input mode); the response is still accessible in update mode and any data already present for this response is still valid.  This setting is especially useful if wave 1 or a survey included all questions and responses, but some are not included in wave 2 as you can be sure that the data entered in wave 1 will always remain (even if data hand over, or update data is used).  Remember, if questions or responses have a false filter applied to "remove" them, when data hand over or update data is used any data will be deleted!

Multi coded responses in data exports

Multi-coded questions which are blank (empty) are now exported as such (they are left empty); previously they were exported as 0s.

314 cards

Up to 314 cards can now be used per respondent (serial record); in previous versions up to 200 cards per respondent could be included.

QPSMR 2007.1

9999 responses

From QPSMR version 2007.1g onwards, up to 9999 responses are allowed to single-coded and multi-coded entries (although entries with more than 1000 responses cannot be used as the columns on a table).

Verify difference correct

The "Verify difference correct" dialog box, used during the verification of character questions has been enhanced.

Formats ESS, ESR, PEC

This version has an optional, recommended, format option ESS to remove "weighting effects" when calculating statistics and significance levels.  When applied this format calculates the "effective sample sizes" or "effective bases" and uses these instead of the unweighted figures in statistics.  To see the effective bases on weighted tables, an additional total row can be shown, by applying format option ESR. To check weighting procedures, the effective sample size can be shown for all cells on a table, by using format option PEC.

Overflow of significance markers

Significance markers using column letters now overflow onto a second line if there are too many to fit within the column.

QPSMR 2006.1

New icons

QPSMR version 2006.1 has brand new shiny icons, all similar to the QPSMR Insight icon shown left.  As well as program icons look out for new icons representing data files ASC and CBA, and DTV, PRS, QSN, QTF and WGT files.

There is also a new toolbar icon which opens the QPSMR Companion included in preparation for new software which will be available early in 2007 ... watch this space for more information!

Data lists now have headers

Data lists that are output to a CSV file now automatically include an extra header row containing entry names for easier identification.

Tables now available in XtabML format

A new XtabML format has been included for exporting tables.  Tables held in this format can be used with other programs and manipulated as required, see www.xtabml.org for more information.

CATI changes

When F12 is used to abort an interview the appropriate ZZZSR0-9 entry is automatically shown on screen for interviewers to select the appropriate reason why the interview has been aborted.  The skeleton CATI QDF file (supplied with the software) has been modified so extra responses are included in entries ZZZSR0-9 - don't forget you can include your own responses too!

Other CATI changes include the user number being added to the serial list report and that priority is now always given to new sample (ZZZSTR can be altered if required).

PREVIOUS VERSIONS

QPSMR 2005.2

Data lists now show texts for all!

QPSMR version 2005.2 has a new "Data list" [Response text for all selected entries] button, which allows you to include texts for ALL highlighted entries (in previous versions this had to be done as each entry was highlighted).  Of course, it is possible to "mix and match" response numbers and texts by selecting [Response text for this entry (not response number)] as required.

New format option MCS (Minimum column suppress)

This new numeric format allows you to suppress columns with an unweighted base of less than the set figure - ideal for preserving confidentiality of respondents for projects with a limited sample, for example, specialist medical research, where it might otherwise be possible to identify respondents.

New format option RNK2 (sort "list all rows" by total column values)

Setting new numeric format option RNK to RNK2 means that the rows of "List all rows" tables will be arranged according to the values in the total column in descending order of magnitude, rather than the row labels.  RNK0 will stop the ranking from being done and RNK1 will cause the rows to be ranked by row label value (the default).

QPSMR Input and QPSMR Telin changes

During data entry, data entered for the questionnaire is now shown at the "End of interview" dialog box (as well as the "Suspended input" dialog box).  In QPSMR Telin the telephone number (TELNUM) is copied to the clipboard when a record is retrieved, so non TAPI compliant diallers can now be used to assist with telephone interviewing.

QPSMR 2005.1

New Response Setting to "Refuse Input"

Responses can be marked as [Refuse input] so they are not available during data entry; they will not appear in the response list, even in paper mode.  In previous versions of QPSMR false filters or a responses filter from a specified variable would have been required to ensure such responses were not available - now all you need to do is tick the box!

New Ranking Facilities - for Columns and Summary Tables

Columns

When an entry with ranking applied is used as the columns of a table, the columns will now be ranked (sorted into descending order based on the figures in the total row).  If this feature is not required simply apply format option RNB set off (NRNB) to your tables.

Summary Tables

Summary tables created using format option CON can automatically be ranked (sorted into order) either by figures in the first row, or by mean scores.  To do this all you need to do is apply new format option RNS with the appropriate setting.  For example, you can automatically sort your mean score summary tables into descending order simply by applying RNS2 to each table in the summary.

QPSMR CATI and Telin software for telephone interviewing

As part of our continued improvements to the QPSMR CATI program we have introduced a new module, QPSMR Telin, to collect data from telephone interviews (QPSMR Input will no longer recognise all QPSMR CATI commands and facilities, so if you are a full QPSMR CATI customer it is important that you use the new QPSMR Telin software).

Also in QPSMR CATI 2005.1 we have made some program modifications to speed up quota checking and appointment updates.

No more "hard to find Undefineds"!

There is a new [Undefined] button available when creating filters that refer to integer or weight entries. This [Undefined] button will pick up those respondents who did not answer the question because they were filtered past it, or because F5 or * was used during data entry to skip the question (presumably because there was no valid answer given).

If data was not entered with QPSMR this button will also pick up respondents with faulty information stored in response to the integer or weight entries referred to by the filter (for example, not a valid number).

Ignore Case for Character Questions in Tables

NEW format option ICT (ignore case in tables) can be used to avoid duplicate rows when using character questions in your tables; so identical texts can now be grouped in the same row even if a mix of cases was used when the data was entered.

Format ICT has 4 settings:

ICT0 is the default setting and will preserve and distinguish the case used in the response for the character questions (upper/lower case), so the words "Red", "red" and "RED" would appear as 3 separate tables rows.

ICT1 will ignore the case and will show on table the first case encountered in the data - in the example above all 3 would appear in a row labelled "Red".

ICT2 upper case all (RED)

ICT3 lower case all (red)

New data export types

QPSMR version 2005.1 has 3 new data exports:

CSV with a header row (using "old style" 0 and 1 codes but including a row at the top that labels each columns with the relevant entry name).

Triple-S 1.2 XML (the most recent version of the Triple-s standard)

TSXE (Triple-s extended edition) which exports extra information to the XML file

Also, exported data files now use the data file type as part of the default name, which you can of course change if you wish.  For example, if you selected one of the Triple-s export types for a project (.QDF) named "Cookware" the default name for the exported data would appear as "Cookware SSS".

CSV Table export now uses format RBL (if set)

The default setting for format option RBL (percentages on base line) is off.  However at QPSMR 2005.1 if RBL is set on (true) and format option RTH (percentages on horizontal totals) is also used QPSMR prints 100% figures in the total column.  These will also be included in the CSV file that is automatically created when the tables are run.

Bypass internal viewer

There are new selections on the "Options" menu which enable you to edit files directly with external programs rather than using the QPSMR internal viewer.

KFILE sub-folder

QPSMR 2005.1 does not create internal files except when an export to the end user analysis program QPSMR Reflect is requested, as temporary files are used. These temporary files are stored in the folder set by your computer system, typically in a folder on the C: drive. This means that disk usage is reduced, and if the project resides on a network, traffic will also be reduced if the temporary folder is on the local C: drive.

If you do export a QPSMR Reflect the KFILE sub-folder (still created to store internal files, but copied by the program to the folder you specify during the export process) may be deleted at a later date.

QPSMR sponsors Football Club

Yes, the QPSMR logo has reached the dizzy heights of divison 4 of the North Berks Football League!

After reading a plea from local football club "Long Wittenham Reserves" (who were trying to obtain enough items to be able to hold an auction to raise funds for a new kit) QPSMR stepped in and provided them with the new kit they wanted so much.  Being keen to encourage participation in any sporting activity and team work, we were happy to help them out.

We hope our sponsorship will bring the lads a little more success than they have had recently, but whatever happens it's the taking part that counts!

"Come on you yellows!!"

The new kit passes the pre-match warm up "scratchy back" and "goalie arm swing" tests!

Miss Jones marries and moves on!

Congratulations to former QPSMR Data Processing Officer Imogen Jones who recently married Private Investigator Darren Glover.

Unfortunately for QPSMR Limited this meant that Imo (a.k.a the new Mrs Glover!) and Darren moved away from the area, and so Imo decided to move on to pastures new.  We wish Imo well in her new married life and of course in her new job.  Imo was a valuable member of the QPSMR bureau department and will be much missed!  In fact Imo was so good, we've filled her vacancy with 2 new members of staff - Kylie Pearce and Tim Hurley, both are welcome additions to the QPSMR team!

Imo is pictured left (after returning from her honeymoon in Thailand).

Drawing Competition results

In celebration of our company outing to Madame Tussauds (see above) friends and relatives of all QPSMR employees were invited to take part in a Drawing Competition.  Aimed at "little people" entrants were asked to draw something from the trip or something they might see in London.

Winner of the competition was Bethnay Winnan, aged 10 (pictured left) who included lots of memories from her day out in her picture.  Second prize went to Paige Wilcox and third prize to Charles Robbins.

Well done to everyone who took part.
